Accessories - function over form

In these Accessory pages I will share my experience customizing my CF Moto ZForce 500 HO. I suspect there will be some mistakes made that perhaps others can learn from, and there may be some ideas that meet the needs of others.

A Roof Rack

One of the biggest reason I purchased Herbie was to transport my 9-foot sit in Zydeco Dagger kayak to the many lakes and streams in the West Parry Sound area. The basic CF Moto ZForce 500 HO does not come with a roof - perfect. What it does come with is a roll bar and the necessary attachment points for a very simple 2x4 wood frame and some old oak flooring. Here's what it looks like.

The kayak, a 9-foot polyethylene Dagger Zydeco, is attached to the roof rack with simple straps. I found that ratchet straps were more of a bother than a help. The paddle rides in the bike, pointed out to the back. The PFD and other accessories ride in the kayak on top. It travels nicely over the trails. I expect I will customize it to allow for a canoe in the near future if there are two of us wanting to head out for a paddle.

That's it. It's pretty simple. I added split ring washers to keep the wing nuts from loosening.
